FICPI WIPO Visit

15th June, 2017

President Doug Deeth and a small FICPI delegation visited WIPO to learn about recent developments at WIPO and to present the views of FICPI members on a broad range of issues.

With Brexit looming, WIPO outlined the possible consequences for the Madrid trade mark system.

The upcoming revision of the UDRP by ICANN represents a potential great threat to trade mark owners.

On the patent front, important new improvements to the PCT are coming.  FICPI stressed the importance of using a local representative for national phase entry following the 2016 and 2017 declarations by JPAA sponsored ‘President Meetings’.

WIPO continues to make available a range of new online tools for patent and trade mark owners.

The full meeting report has been made available to members via the FICPI News email.
