New Trade Mark Rules in India

18th July, 2017

Recent developments in the Indian IP regime in relation to trademarks were brought in by enactment of the Trade Marks Rules, 2017. The New Rules along with the Trade Marks Act, 1999 promotes a comprehensive e-filing system. Incentives have been provided for digital and electronic communication. Importantly, it brings the “well-known” trademarks within the purview of the TM Registry.

The Indian TM Registry is geared up to digitise various administrative procedures. The objective is to simplify and expedite the registration process.
