The organisational structure and function of the Federation is illustrated above.

The Executive Committee is the governing body of the Federation, having as members one delegate and an alternate delegate from each national association or section, but only one vote per country.

The Bureau is elected every three years by the Executive Committee and is responsible for the daily management and operation of the Federation. It is chaired by the President of the Federation, assisted by the Vice-President, the Secretary General, the Treasurer General and the Assistant Secretary General.

The Advisory Council is a consultative body assisting the Bureau in more general and strategic questions. In addition to the Bureau it comprises all past and honorary presidents of the Federation, presently eight, together with the president of the Study and Works Commission (CET) and the Contact Commission, and five councillors elected by the Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee also elects presidents and, where applicable, vice-presidents of a number of important special Commissions with responsibility for the many functions and activities of the Federation.
